Last weekend in NYC

So here I am, My last last week in NYC. So sad, it went by so fast it's disappointing. It's like I've said a million times, I want to stay here forever the only reason I want to come back is to see everyone.

Since this past weekend was our last one, Rachel and I wanted to go big or go home (literally). Friday night we met up with some of the other Iowa Staters.. (Cherrie and Jamie) and our friend David along with his two friends that were visiting from out of town. We went out to dinner at this place called Brother Jimmy's it was hickory park food meets Spring Break beach joint (wooden tables, Pineapple willies type feel) meets NYC. It was VERY fun, and we of course had to hit up our favorite piano bar in Times Square where they are recognizing our faces and we no longer have to pay cover. Ha.

Saturday, Rachel and i finally went on a mini shopping spree. After being here the whole summer and not buying anything for ourselves we figured we better get some shopping in while we are here. We ate lunch at the famous "Cafeteria" restaurant (from sex and the city). It was very good and I wish we would have went more than once. It is always fun just getting out of our area and wandering around the different Neighborhoods in Manhattan. The city is just full of so many places to experience.

Saturday night we went to this SUPER fun bar down the street from our place, because they were have a drink special ($1 drinks... that is the biggest steal I've ever seen in NYC) While there, we made a guy friend who bought all of our drinks. We finally find a guy to buy us drinks after the entire summer and they were only a dollar. Where was he when we were paying $8 a drink!
We later met up with Cherrie and her Romi and friends down at a Karaoke Bar, where we rented our own private room. SO this basically us all just belting it out to every song that came on, which is just my style.

Sunday we finally made it to a Mets game. We got all decked out and bought hats and shirts, it was very fun. It rained all day but finally got sunny so we got to see the game, even though we lost. And yes I say we, because I'm a total mets fan now ha.

Anyway, it is hard to believe that I am going to be leaving all this behind in just a few days. I don't want it to be over.

The first Look.

I have sat here, staring at this blank slate for hours. I have never blogged before and frankly, i don't know where to begin so I apologize if this is "rough".

I don't know if I really expect people to read this, or if I'm just writing to hear myself type. Either way I hope it is beneficial or entertaining to some.

So, I am currently living in NYC. I think I was born to live here. Going back to Iowa in the 2 weeks is going to be a major slam on of the brakes. The city keeps me entertained 24/7. Central Park is the love of my life and I've developed an unbreakable bond with cupcakes. I thougth I would be annoyed not being able to drive myself around and walking everywhere but I LOVE walking around the city as it never gets boring and have gotten very good at taking the subway. I walk to and from work everday which is like a mile each way, but highly enjoy it because I get to walk by Rockefeller and radio city music hall everday and I work in the heart of Times Square. I would say there is the perfect amount of hustle and bustle here for me. Surprisingly I don't feel closterphobic. I live in midtown East which is a neighborhood of tall buildings and fun "hole in the wall" joints. I am honestly surprised i love being surrounded by tall buildings, it makes me feel secure I guess you could say. Don't get me wrong. I love Iowa, born and raised and will always have it in me. I love the country and Baxter, Iowa and always will. I love the outdoors and having space to have a backyard but after living here I have a different look on life and ideas of a different path I might want to venture onto after graduating.

I am interning at MTV Networks. There are a lot of things people don't know about MTV. MTV Networks owns VH1, CMT, Nickelodeon, Nick @ Nite, Noggin, Spike TV, TV LandComedy Central, Logo, and obviously all the different MTV channels. Each channel has its own floor, it's own departments and are run by different people. But they all correspond together. I sadly don't see celebs everyday like you might imagine. I have seen Sway from MTV news numerous times in the building as MTV and some other shows are produced in my building. I got to meet J.J Abrams, Wyclef Jean, Carlos Santos, and many more at an event that was held for all the channel execs. I also got free VIP tickets to Dave Matthews Band last week.

At my internship I mainly research new venues opening up in the NYC area adn keep record for future reference. I book venues for events and am currently setting up site visits for VMA events.
Other than that I strive to be a celebrity stalker here in the city, with no luck thus far.

On the weekends my roomate Rachel and I usually explore the cities night life, which is very fun. We like to spend our Saturday's in Central Park and Sunday's we catch up on cleaning our Small and cold dorm room.

I have a love hate relationship with the thought of going home in 2 weeks. If it werent' for my family and friends in Iowa and my desperate obsession with my relationships with them, I would stay here. I am not ready to leave... these 10 weeks have flown by. I am excited to move back to Ames, where me and my fellow "seniors".. soon to be 5th years have "graduated" from Chi omega and are now movign into our mini sorority house, also known as the 9man. I can't imagine next year when I actually have to part with them for real. This summer the calls and emails have been never ending, but at least we have an end in sight. Next year when we leave it is for good. I am so happy to have one more year with the girls (and guys) that have brought so much happiness into my life. Our group has an unbreakable, abnormal bond. Even my parents find it undescribable. So i have faith that even when we do part ways, that bond will never be broken.

So I guess that is it. The end of my first blog. Hopefully many more to come.
